My friend Anika is a big Google+ fan. During a recent chat about attending the opening night of a photography exhibit here in town she actually wrote this via text, “Awesome… but after being on Google+… I have seen too many photographs now… lol. If your plans change, lemme know about watching a movie;)” Now, apart from the fact that I think she’s a G+ snob, was she really insinuating that she’s seen so many photographs that she couldn’t possibly stand to look at another one? It reminded me of the part in the OutKast song “Ms. Jackson” where Andre asks, “Forever, forever, ever, forever, ever?”
Before I go any further, I want to set the record straight about my friend Anika. Although she does belongs to a huge community of art enthusiasts from all around the world on G+, she’s really not a snob at all. Love you Anika! Furthermore, she has supported the local arts community for as long as I’ve known her. I just couldn’t resist using a real life example of something said in jest to make this point.
We are living in the midst of a dynamic and ever burgeoning art scene, and it’s happening right here, right now! Believe it!! I mean this wholeheartedly. ”The City Beautiful” is filled with so many talented, passionate, and diverse individuals producing some the most amazingly creative work in your very own backyard. Were you even aware of this? I’m urging you folks. Get up, step out and become active participants, contributors, nurturers, lovers, sharers, and supporters of your Orlando Art & Culture.

- “Snaps of Reality” Photography Exhibit by Brad Levine. Opening Friday June 8, 2012 from 5:30 – 8:30 P.M. at the Maitland Chamber of Commerce. Free Admission.
- “A Tribute to ALIEN Art Show” Local art inspired by the movie Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection and Prometheus by Various Artists. Opening Saturday June 9, 2012 from 8 P.M. – 2 A.M. at Mother Falcon. 21 & Over.
- “Sell Out” Featuring: B-Side Artists. Opening Thursday June 21, 2012 from 6 – 9 P.M. at City Arts Factory. This is one super cool & eclectic artist collective. This all ages show is a must!
- “Behind the Lens” An Artists Registry Member Juried Art Exhibit. Artists’ Reception on Thursday June 21, 2012 from 6 – 9 P.M. at Gallery at Avalon Island. Free & Open to the Public.
- “Faces” a Group Show of Contemporary Artists. Opens June 30, 2012. 8 P.M. – 2 A.M at Extra Large Gallery. 21 & Over.
