Why I Love Orlando! 02/14/13

Why I Love Orlando is non-profit, grass roots movement started in 2012 resulting from the Why I Love Orlando workshops conceived by the City of Orlando and author of For the Love of Cities, Peter Kageyama.

The organic social media movement is managed with donated resources from the team at FDG {creative} as a way to inspire and fuel love and hometown pride for The City Beautiful among its residents. Visit https://www.facebook.com/WhyILoveOrlando for more information.

MAYOR DYER GIVES OUT HUGS TO CITIZENS AS PART OF WHY I LOVE ORLANDO INITIATIVE

On Valentine’s Day, Orlando Mayor Dyer will participate in the first Why I Love Orlando (WILO) “PDA Initiative” in the heart of the City at Lake Eola Park.  Mayor Dyer will kick off the event by expressing his affection for Orlando and its citizens.

Throughout the day, citizens can show some “PDA” to the City they love on Valentine’s Day through words and images.  A Love Letters booth will be set up in at a designated area within Lake Eola. Passersby will be encouraged to show their love in the following ways:

  • Big ‘O’ Hugs:   Visit the Big ‘O’ Hug photo booth to receive a hug from a Why I Love Orlando ambassador.  Photos will be taken and posted on the WILO Facbook page.  Hug donations will be accepted on behalf of the Urban Think! Foundation (UTF).
  • Love Lens:  Take a photo with a smart phone using a designated love lens card to spot the perfect lovable scene (viewfinder with the frame in the shape of the WILO logo’s heart graphic.)
  • lOve nOtes:  On this day dedicated to love, we want to hear from the public about why they LOVE our city via love notes.  Do green spaces and beautiful lakes get their hearts beating? Does family-friendly entertainment make them smile?  Does out plethora of unique neighborhood boutiques and restaurants charm them? Or, do our world-class sports and entertainment venues excite them?  Orlando’s charm is front and center in these off-the-cuff personal love notes.
