One of the largest collections of wines of any Orlando event is coming to Orlando Science Center on Saturday, May 11, 2013. The Science of Wine is not just another wine tasting, but an oenological odyssey with presentations on multiple aspects of wine growing and wine tasting as well as the opportunity to sample more than 100 fine wines from the world’s most important wine regions.
This event is a fundraiser for Orlando Science Center and is presented by Akerman. Southern Wine & Spirits is the exclusive wine provider. Luis Torres of the Constellation Academy of Wine as well as Tim’s Wine Market are education partners, providing presentations and workshops on the Science of Wine.
More than one hundred fine wines will be featured from the world-class portfolio of Southern Wines & Spirits. Every major wine region of the world will be represented. Whether you are a novice or a wine aficionado, you will find a vast variety of wines to please your senses.
(Drink Wine and Learn About It, Too)
From 7 p.m.–10 p.m., there will be plentiful gourmet and casual food offerings to accompany the wide range of wine selections. Food partners include Cabot Creamery; Carrabba’s Italian Grill; Choffy; Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar; Hawkers Asian Street Fare; John Michael Events; John and Shirley’s Catering; Millenia Catering; The Palm; Puff ‘n Stuff Catering; Romano’s Macaroni Grill and Italian Restaurant; SoNapa Grille; Talk of the Town Restaurant Group featuring Charley’s Steak House and MoonFish; Taverna Opa; Vital Flair Catering; and Whole Foods Market.
In addition, the Science Center will offer a wine knowledge-building seminar presented by Luis Torres, renowned wine educator from the Constellation Academy of Wine: “Cheese and Wine: Life Beyond the ‘Wine and Cheese’ Social Cocktail Party.” The advent of the cheese course is a cornerstone of today’s fine dining experience, so take advantage of it by understanding how to best work wine into the equation. Whether as a separate course, with appetizers and yes, in or with desserts, all scenarios can be explored. Also, Tim’s Wine Market will offer wine education stations that explore the elements of wine while guests sample and become educated.
Proceeds to benefit Orlando Science Center, a 501(c)(3) organization. The Science of Wine raises critical funds to provide operating support for educational programs and opportunities for youth, regardless of their ability to pay, to experience the fun and discovery of Orlando Science Center.
Tickets are available at $75 per person. Special tickets for Science Center members are $60.
