The Frederick Leadership Initiative (FLI) Board of Directors today voted to support the City of Orlando, Orange County, and the Orlando City Soccer Club in their combined efforts to win an MLS franchise and construct a new soccer stadium in the City of Orlando.
“In keeping with the vision of our founder Orlando Mayor Emeritus Bill Frederick, the Frederick Leadership Initiative fully supports the efforts of Orlando City to establish a MLS franchise in our community,” said Board Chair Charles Hawkins. “Mayor Frederick played an instrumental role in bringing an NBA franchise – the Orlando Magic — to our community in 1987 resulting in hundreds of jobs, millions in economic impact and our ability to host high profile events such as the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend. Similarly, we believe an MLS franchise would have a positive impact on our region and is worthy of the community’s investment.”
The mission of the Frederick Leadership Initiative is to connect the talent base within the Orlando community such that a network of future leaders is fostered, issues related to governance of the community are discussed, knowledge of public service opportunities are increased, and emerging group of informed and engaged residents is created.
