This Saturday Oviedo is hosting its 20th Annual Taste of Oviedo celebration. Admission to the event is free. A car show, bigger than ever, will feature nearly 100 cars. Live entertainment will take the main stage throughout the day. A kid’s area will include a kiddie train ride, bounce houses and other kiddie rides.
“This beloved community event has grown from a few thousand attendees to over 50,000. Our sponsor’s ensure that this event is a huge success, and we couldn’t deliver all the food and fun without them,” said Bridget Lake, senior director of sponsorships and events at the Oviedo-Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The event features two main competitions as well.
The Citrus & Celery Cook-Off features two crops Oviedo is famous for. Make sure to show up by 11:30 and you can become a judge for the cook-off. The first 100 people to sign-up (Registration is $12 for both Citrus and Celery and that include a commemorative T-shirt) are able to taste all the amazing recipes.
The other main event is the Chicken Chomp Contest. In commemoration of the Taste of Oviedo’s 20th Anniversary this timed eating contest includes 20 oz of Orange Juice, 20 inches of celery and 20 hot wings, provided by Wing House. Don’t worry, non of these chicken wings are from the much-loved Oviedo chickens. Entrance fee is $20 with half of the proceeds going to the The Oviedo Preservation Project. The contest takes place at 5pm. Our very own Ken Storey will be one of the judges for the Chicken Chomp Contest. Also judging this fun competition are Alex Diaz from MIX 105.1 and Paco Lopez from 105.9 Sunny FM. So make sure to say hi to him while you’re there.
After the contest make sure to stick around for fireworks at 7pm. The Taste of Oviedo takes place in the parking lot of the Oviedo Mall (1700 Oviedo Mall Blvd, Oviedo). Check out the video below for more details on the event.
