Enjoy the sounds of the season with the dynamic duo Tammerlin, returning to Bok Tower Gardens on Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Visitor Center. Surrounded by Christmas scenery and décor, guests will experience “Wintersong,” a beautiful and eclectic holiday program of ancient and modern carols, poems, readings and songs to delight all ages.
For the past 20 years, Lee Hunter and Arvid Smith have been placing their own stamp on folk/roots music. Exceptional guitar work accompanies well-crafted original songs and traditional tunes pulled from the heart of American music—a little bit pop, country, British Isles and blues—but the centerpiece are the stories that connect us.
“It’s all about evolution,” Hunter says. “Music has never stayed in one place and it’s not going to. Lots of people are doing what we’re doing, but in different ways. We’re taking traditional music and writing inspired by the tradition as well, to a new place, with our own voices and vocabulary and experience, but always with respect for where it came from.”
Tammerlin has performed at Piccolo Spoleto, The Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institute and numerous music festivals and concert series throughout the U.S. and Europe. With a sound that is a step off the well-beaten path, Tammerlin’s concerts and six CD recordings have received much critical acclaim and radio airplay worldwide.

“Tammerlin really captures the magic of the season in their performances,” said Jennifer Beam, Director of Visitor Services & Events at the Gardens. “It’s not just music, it’s poems and spoken carols. And there is such an authentic, sweet sound to their music. We love to celebrate Christmas at the Gardens, and music is a natural part of what makes it so special,” Beam said.
The “Wintersong” concert takes place in the Bok Tower Gardens Visitor Center, with general admission seating. Reservations are required; tickets are $25 per person which includes all-day admission to the Gardens, and Bok Tower members receive a 10% discount. The Blue Palmetto Café will remain open until the concert begins at 7:30 p.m., serving light dinner fare, desserts, coffee, beer and wine. Excitement is growing as the Orlando Philharmonic prepares to pay tribute to America’s beloved musical icon, John Denver in a Rocky Mountain High at The Springs.
The music of the late John Denver is like an old friend, outlasting trends and standing the test of time. Denver’s uplifting music and lyrics continue their appeal to all ages.
Join the Orlando Philharmonic and acclaimed performer Jim Curry for this tribute to the music of one of the most beloved singer/songwriters ever to grace the stage.
“The physical resemblance is amazing, the voice is unbelievable. If John Denver were alive today,
he’d want to hear songs performed by Jim Curry.” — Christina Chanes Nystrom, City News
Tribute artist Jim Curry, whose voice was heard in the CBS-TV movie Take Me Home: The John Denver Story, has performed Denver’s music in sold out shows throughout the country and has emerged as today’s top performer of Denver’s vast legacy of multi-platinum hits.
Even at this early stage in his life Jim’s natural voice resembled that of singer/songwriter John Denver. Embracing this similarity, he continued to sing and specialize in the songs of John Denver, sharing John’s positive messages of love, humanity, and environmental awareness.
The untimely death of John Denver in 1997 was a tragedy that was felt the world over. Such a void in the musical world left John’s ardent fans demanding that his music survive. CBS television responded by producing a made for TV movie: “Take Me Home, the John Denver Story” in which Jim landed an off-camera role singing as the voice of John Denver. This experience inspired Jim to produce full–length John Denver tribute concerts.
Pack a picnic, grab your blanket and join us at The Springs 2012 as you fill up your senses with the music and the memories of John Denver in a Rocky Mountain High celebration at The Springs 2012.
Hollywood rapper Mickey Avalon is coming through town on May 1st in Orlando for a performance at the The Social. We would love to work out a time for you to set up a quick interview with Mickey or a preview to advance the show.
Mickey’s rock n’ roll story is definately one for the books. His grandparents were holocaust survivors imprisoned in Auschwitz concentration camps, while his father was a alcoholic, heroin addict that was killed by a drunk driver, and his mother sold weed to get by. Mickey followed in his father’s footsteps and developed a raging smack habit, which he had to resort to prostitution on the streets of Portland to fund his next fix. All this after he just got married in his early 20s and had a child.
Afterwards Mickey decided to clean himself up and move back to Hollywood, where he discovered his sister dead of a drug overdose. He then got clean and focused on music where he met MTV VJ Simon Rex (now known as Dirt Nasty) who shopped his demo around the LA club scene, which led to Mickey being discovered by Interscope who signed him. Mickey’s story is truly one of the most insane rock stories of recent memory.
