George Catlin’s American Buffalo

American artist George Catlin journeyed west five times in the 1830s, traversing the Great Plains where he visited and painted more than 140 American Indian tribes. This exhibition presents 40 original Catlin pantings from the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection that show the crucial role of the buffalo in Plains Indian culture.

See it…Feel it…Pete Townshend’s groundbreaking rock opera Tommy! Come on the Amazing Journey for this mind-expanding tale of the world’s first Pinball Wizard-turned-Messiah. In post-World War II England, Tommy becomes withdrawn after witnessing a horribly, violent crime and his family is desperate to free him from this subconscious trap. Everyone in their community has suggestions to heal him, but Tommy doesn’t respond to anything except pinballs and flashing lights. Featuring classic music from The Who such as “I’m a Sensation”, “The Acid Queen”, and “Pinball Wizard”.
