Central Florida Community Arts: Guys and Dolls

Central Florida Community Arts is proud to present a concert version of Guys and Dolls as its 2015 Summer Broadway Series production.

It’s New York City in the 1950s, and all the hot gamblers in town are depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week’s incarnation of “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York.” The only problem is, he needs to scrounge up $1,000 to secure a place for the game. Gambling legend and notorious ladies’ man, Sky Masterson, accepts Nathan’s $1,000 bet that he can’t get Sarah Brown, local missionary, to accept a date with him. Meanwhile, Miss Adelaide, Nathan’s long-suffering fiancée of 14 years, is trying to figure out a way to get him down the aisle once and for all. Featuring the music and lyrics of Frank Loesser, Guys and Dolls features classic songs, including “If I Were A Bell,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat,” and “Luck Be A Lady.”

Proceeds from the performance will benefit the CFCArts Youth Outreach Program.

Guys and Dolls will be held at Northland Church (530 Dog Track Rd., Longwood, FL 32750) at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11. Tickets are on sale at http://cfcarts.com/guys-and-dolls/. General admission tickets are $10 each, priority seating tickets are $25 each, and children age 3 and under will be admitted for free.

Guys and Dolls September 10 and 11

So how’s the “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York” going to happen without one thousand bucks? Where can they get that sized bundle of lettuce?

Come find out when the Central Florida Community Arts presents their 5th annual Summer Broadway Season production, Guys and Dolls, September 10 & 11, 2015 at Northland Church, a 3,100-seat, state-of-the-art venue in Longwood.

Based on the stories and characters of Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, this concert-style production of Guys and Dolls is directed by Rob Lott, with music direction by Jacob Haines, assistant direction by Ashley Willsey, choreography by Katherine Rivera, and is produced by Joshua Vickery through CFCArts.

Set in the ’50s, Guys and Dolls sets Sky Masterson, ladies man and notorious gambler toe to toe with Nathan Detroit who says there ain’t no WAY missionary Sarah Brown will go out with him (backed up with a thousand dollar bet that would get that floating crap game off and running). With complex staging, imaginative choreography and a slew of catchy tunes, the CFCArts production is, we BET, going to be a huge success.

“There’s a reason Guys and Dolls is considered to be one of the great American musicals,” says director Rob Lott. “It just works.”

Guys and Dolls features classic songs, including “If I Were A Bell,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat,” and “Luck Be A Lady.”

Guys and Dolls features David Kelley* (Sky Masterson), Kelley McGillicuddy* (Sarah Brown), Michael Swickard* (Nathan Detroit), Melissa Mason (Miss Adelaide), Joe Tokarz* (Nicely Nicely Johnson), Kevin Zepf (Benny Southstreet), Timothy Pappas (Harry The Horse), and Thomas Limbacher (Arvide Abernathy), with Amanda Brievogel, Michelle Carroll, Scott Kerill, Scott Leake, Danny Seigler, Danielle Smith, and Tammy Winsor.

The cast also includes 12 dancers, a 70-voice choir, and live music by a full orchestra.

Rockin’ the Seventies with CFCArts Community Choir

Get out your leisure suit, bell bottoms and platform shoes because Central Florida Community Arts proudly presents Rockin’ the Seventies, as performed by our CFCArts Community Choir and Symphony Orchestra.

The 1970s were filled with turbulence and new technology in the midst of a unique culture. These were the days of pet rocks, mood rings and water beds, when we could listen to 8-track tapes in our cars, instead of just AM radio. Disco was king, while electronic music and hip hop got their start in what is sometimes referred to as the “me” decade. Find your inner disco diva and join us as we perform a musical revue of the sights and sounds of the seventies, with songs from ABBA, Michael Jackson, the Bee Gees and more!

Rockin’ the Seventies will be held at Northland Church at 7:30pm on Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15. General Admission tickets are $10 each, Priority Seating tickets are $25 each and children age 3 and under will be admitted for free.
