Jackie Siegel chats Celebrity Wife Swap, 2015 Projects and more!

Recently we sat down with the Queen of Versailles herself, Jackie Siegel, to find out about her home-in-progress Versailles (which will be the biggest home in America) and what’s on the horizon. A more recent project making big news today debuts tonight. Jackie and her husband, Westgate Resort owner David Siegel, will both appear on Celebrity Wife Swap tonight at 10pm on WFTV Channel 9. Here’s sneak preview clip of Jackie and Jeremy at his home in Oklahoma:

Not familiar with the show? Here’s a breakdown from ABC Networks; Celebrity Wife Swap” features two women of celebrity families trading households, lifestyles and children (but not bedrooms) for one week. During that time, the women – and swapped families – learn what it is like to live in someone else’s shoes, but everything changes during the second half of the week when the women make their own rules and get the chance to run the household their way.  At the end of the week, the couples reunite for a raw, honest and highly-charged exchange of views in which they make frank assessments of one another and discuss the experience.

We will be live tweeting the broadcast with Jackie and other celebrities tonight at a private viewing party! Make sure to follow @JackieSiegelUSA on Twitter (hashtags #CelebrityWifeSwap, #QueenOfVersailles) and @CentralFLTop5 on Twitter and Instagram for some behind the scenes fun! Watch our full interview with her before tonight’s broadcast here:

Firstly, Jackie wants everyone to know that Versailles is NOT dead. In fact, construction has resumed and is slated to finish in 2017. “Versailles is fully back on and I’m very excited about it! I would like to do something in the form of a tv show or something, letting the world know that Versailles is going to be finished. When you watch the movie, Queen of Versailles, it kind of left you hanging like maybe it was a dead project or something, but it’s not. We still own it and the King and the Queen are finishing it!

Jackie took us on a tour – and it’s MASSIVE! Look for a full, recent walk-thru of Versailles (also through Google Glass) soon on CentralFloridaTop5.com!

Among her grand tasklist of projects here is Florida’s film and television industry. “I’ve also been supporting the Florida Film Incentive. I’ve taken a couple of trips up to Tallahassee and went to the Rally in Tally,” she says. “I really think Florida is a great place for the film industry (to be). It not only creates jobs but we have beautiful weather all year round.

In case you weren’t aware, Film Florida organizes Rally in Tally, an annual event where members of Florida’s film, tv and digital media industries travel to our Capital to educate legislators on the importance of having a financial infrastructure in place to attract jobs from big projects like USA Network’s Burn Notice, Disney’s Tomorrowland and more.

Just a few of Jackie’s other projects include:

First passenger capsule installed on The Orlando Eye

By: @jenvargas

Construction update!

Number One of thirty total glass passenger capsules was installed yesterday on The Orlando Eye at the new I-Drive 360 Complex!

The Orlando Eye installs pax capsule

Over the next two to three weeks you should start seeing The Orlando Eye take even more shape as we start putting more and more capsules on,” said Robin Goodchild, General Manager of The Orlando Eye.

Visitors can expect a fully immersive experience while on or off the 400 foot observation wheel. “It’s going to be an overall fantastic 4D experience of all the sites Central Florida has to offer,” says Goodchild. “Onboard the capsule, not only will you have obviously air conditioning, there will be plenty of space to move around and take in those wonderful views. We’ll also have these tablets that we’ve installed at the moment, and they’re going to be an interactive experience. If there’s any part of Central Florida that you’re not quite sure about, you can zoom in and find a bit more information about that area.

I used my own Glass ‘eye’ (Google Glass) while chatting briefly with Robin, who was fascinated by the device. Here’s our interview…

CiCi’s Pizza Launches ‘Better’ Pizza Experience

by: @jenvargas

Behold! A better CiCi’s Pizza. Believe it. (And CiCi’s Pizza invited Central Florida Top 5 to have a  first taste!)

Your guest feedback via email as well as on Twitter and Facebook has inspired CiCi’s pizza perfectionists to go the extra mile to bring you what they are calling “a Better pizza experience.” The kicker? Improving their traditional pizza favorites is just one (big!) step. More menu improvements are planned for 2015! But first things first; What makes today’s CiCi’s Pizza better than the CiCi’s Pizza of yesteryear – or even yesterday? Let’s start at the beginning: The Dough!

CiCi’s buffet pizza size is now livin’ la vida GRANDE! Their 12″ medium size pies will now be 14″ large and, by the slice, will be a somewhat more normal size. While the size will grow, the outer crust will shrink. Only a half inch, down from one inch thick. You know what that leaves? Room for more toppings and cheese!! Also, their made from scratch crust will now be brushed with a Garlic Buttered sauce which is very tasty. The individual pizzas, for those who want a pizza all their own, are now 9″ and a bit more manageable than before. At La Slice online ordering is available! Order your tasty sicilian slices now.

Next: The Sauce. Let’s dish. Some would say a tomato sauce is a tomato sauce, allowing just the toppings to carry the flavor. CiCi’s isn’t down with this line of thought. Their improved, proprietary spice blend features fresh, crushed tomatoes and a Mediterranean oregano seasoning that gives the sauce a needed, zestier kick. Granted, I’m not a sauce girl. Tomatoes and I simply play nice in the sandbox, however, I did enjoy the new flavor more than I thought I would. Combined with the garlic butter sauce on the crust… it’s just BETTER.

On to the good stuff: The Cheese. Hands down, cheese is always my favorite part of any pizza. What I really, really like about CiCi’s is they employ a “heaping” strategy when it comes to making their pizza, and on their new pizzas, the cheese quotient (100% real cheese, btw) has nearly doubled! We were invited to a Lunch and Learn last week, where we learned exactly what goes into making the perfect CiCi’s pizza. Heck, even my pie turned out well and I’m a terrible (no exaggeration) cook! Feast your eyes on all the heaping action through Google Glass!

A pizza, of course, would not be a pizza without The Toppings! With fresher, more meaty toppings, CiCi’s is literally building a better pizza from the doughy ground up. The pepperoni has gotten a teensy bit thicker and spicier, the sausage has more flavor and you will see MORE of it per square inch on all your CiCi’s favorites!

Speaking of, there’s great news as for fans of guest favorites Classic Pepperoni, Sausage, Veggie and Classic Cheese pizzas. All will have a dedicated spot on CiCi’s buffet, complete with a sign! Also available, flatbread pizzas in; Meltdown, Sausage and Pepperoni and Garlic Veggie. If you follow us on Twitter, you may already know this. We spilled the news last week – It left the buffet back in 2006 but – Garlic Cheesy Bread is BACK!!

Don’t forget about the soup, pasta and salad options. No changes so far for the soup or pasta (yet), but the salad bar has also nearly doubled in size! New options on the bar at select locations include; sunflower seeds, garbanzo beans, sliced beets and pickle chips. And! All is still included when visiting CiCi’s, including Specialty Pizzas! Sodas are still a separate cost but, for the value, that’s not bad at all!

  • All salad dressings at are Gluten-free, excluding ranch?
  • Upon request, CiCi’s will make you your own custom pizza INCLUDING crustless and cheeseless options??
  • Henceforth, pizza photographers will now be known as Pizzarazzi. (We LOVE all those Zs!)
  • You can join CiCi’s Pizza Perks by texting PERKS to 474992 for great deals and announcements! (4 texts a month, 2 national)
  • There are currently 465 CiCi’s locations in 42 states

So what’s next for these pizza perfectionists? You’ll just have to keep an eye peeled on CentralFloridaTop5.com for more…

George Takei to visit St. Pete/Clearwater Oct 4th

By: @jenvargas

“Oh myyy…” Set all St. Pete/Clearwater phasers to FABULOUS!! An Evening with George Takei is coming to town on October 4th, 2014!

Of all the hats he’s worn in life (and the many he currently wears) George Takei clearly wears all with a deep honor, dignity and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. As an actor, activist, Survivor, author, social media enthusiast, Grammy nominee, blogger, husband and Board Member, it is definitely Okay To Be Takei!

Most know Mr. Takei from his breakout role as Lieutenant Sulu on the original Star Trek series and their subsequent motion pictures. His film and television credits may date back to the 1950’s but he’s just as – if not more – relevant today. He will also grace the broadway stage soon portraying Vetertan and WWII war hero Sam Kimura in the musical “Allegience” by Composer Jay Kuo, and he also stars in Matt Zarley’s upcoming musical film called “Hopeful Romantic,” debuting on February 10th, 2015.

We are BIG fans here at Central Florida Top 5! We love following Mr. Takei on Twitter, Tumblr and most recognizably on his award-winning Facebook page, where he makes it rain with clever puns and crazy memes. NEVER a dull moment there.

On a personal note, I hope to get the opportunity to meet and chat with Mr. Takei next month. In 2013, I was honored to have been included on TechRepublic’s 10 Tech Heroes of 2013 alongside Mr. Takei. Also, individually, we have been recognized by the Shorty Awards, as well as have explored using Google Glass. If we do meet, all of you will know first! Keep an eye peeled to our Facebook and Twitter pages…

The St. Pete/Clearwater Film Commission is proud to announce a first-ever partnership with actor, producer, radio host and social media sensation George Takei. An Evening with George Takei, which will take place from 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Sullivan Studios, will offer locals and visitors alike the chance to hear from the star in an intimate setting.

The event coincides with Takei’s visit to St. Pete/Clearwater to produce experiential and promotional videos for the Film Commission. Takei, who is best known for his portrayal of Lieutenant Sulu in Star Trek, has grown into a digital media star, too, with more than 10 million followers and fans.

“George Takei is a bonafide star, and his brand is a perfect fit for a hip, fun destination like ours,” said St. Pete/Clearwater Film Commissioner Tony Armer. “We want the digital space to be a big part of what we do moving forward, so this partnership makes a lot of sense.”

According to VSPC Interim Director David Downing, this celebrity appearance is the first of many initiatives designed to enhance both the Film Commission’s profile while contributing to the overall marketing mission of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater.

“Just like the stars from Dolphin Tale in the video we released last week, our intention is that some of his star power rubs off on the destination,” said Downing. “His appeal is undeniable.”

The event is open to the public and $25 tickets can be purchased here.

Google I/O Extended Orlando Begins Today at UCF

Google I/O Extended 2014 at UCF

What the heck is Google I/O, and why is it ‘extended‘ at UCF? We’ll tell you…

Every year AdInfusion agency (in San Francisco) holds a huge two day conference for roughly 5,000 people. Chances are, if you are not of the developer persuasion or a tech enthusiast, you may not even be aware of this event. These two very important days are chock full of hardcore techie speakers and developer sessions where applications in the enterprise, web and mobile realm are explored and openly hacked.

For the last 3 years, my friends from a computer repair Fort Collins company have been coming to give lectures on new innovations in the industry.

In fact, the “I/O” in Google I/O stands for input/output as well as “Innovation in the Open.” Our I/O event at UCF is called ‘Extended’ simply because it does not take place in San Francisco… but that doesn’t mean it’s insignificant or any less important.

Google I/O started in 1998 and over the years has announced many new innovations and devices including; Google Hangouts, the Samsung Galaxy 4 phone, Google Chrome internet browser, Project Glass (now known as Google Glass), Google Play Music All Access streaming and even the social media site Google+ (we have a Google+ page – please circle and +1 us!)

This year’s Google I/O Orlando Extended will take place at UCF’s College of Engineering and Computer Science in the Harris Corporation Engineering Center (HEC-101). The keynote will be streamed live at 12pm and a discussion about the possible impact on mobile technology will follow. With wearable tech taking center stage, we suspect there may be some smartwatch news (among other things)…

Also? If you LOVE Google, the organizers assure us there will be plenty of FREE GOOGLE SWAG to be had! #io14

Director Devin Lucia brings ‘Dog Sees God’ to Orlando’s The Venue

A special invitation to all of YOU from the cast through Google Glass!

Opening this weekend is a local production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, written by Burt V. Royal. The story cleverly juxtaposes Charles Schultz’s classic Peanuts characters with commonplace teens and the daily problems they face. The echoing subject throughout the play? Bullying, an unfortunate hot button topic in today’s society and especially prevalent in high schools. In this production they fearlessly tackle it all; being gay, overweight, hate crimes, racial stereotyping, drugs, peer pressure and more. Not only do they tackle it onstage, they’ve opened an anti-bullying dialogue across social media, on their website and through video interviews with the cast via their Dog Sees God Orlando YouTube page

Sound too heavy? Don’t worry. There are well-paced, comedic breaks along the way. And! If you’re a huge Peanuts fan like I am, there are plenty of nifty easter eggs [hidden and not-so-hidden] throughout the performance. (Who doesn’t like a good Snoopy Dance?!)

The play’s director, Devin Lucia, has given the script a bit of an update from its early 2000’s context. Her staging aims to push the boundaries of social identification. Through the main character “CB,” we follow a journey of awkward adolescent phases of self discovery. In association with UCF’s Bully-Free Florida Network, fundraising and awareness efforts to support this cause are intertwined within the show. A dedicated cast of local 20-something thespians handle this production’s heavy material with grace and humor. Tickets are only $10 and are available NOW for purchase online or in person at The Venue Orlando
