OFF 2014OFF 2014b

With over 250 films screening, this is Orlando Film Festival’s biggest year ever! More than 300 filmmakers and talent from around the world will descend upon Downtown Orlando to represent their films. Welcome filmmakers!

Orlando Film Fest kicked off last night with a Wine’d Down Wednesday pre-party at Kasa Restaurant and Bar and followed with a opening night screening of the “pitch-dark comedy,” Tiger Lily Road. Director Michael Medeiros with a few cast and crew members attended the screening before heading over to Kres Chophouse on Orange Ave for a great after party.

Festival passes, VIP and VIP Elite passes are still available at orlandofilmfest.com. Stay for a single film, block of films or go for the VIP Elite pass to get priority seating and unlimited access to the entire fest including; every screening, party, panel, music conference, filmmaker and VIP lounges.

Below, Indie Cinema Showcase goes behind the scenes of last year’s festival to find out why MovieMaker Magazine named Orlando Film Festival one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals In The World!”

Speaking of filmmakers, you may recognize the host of the segment above. He’s guest contributor Nando Torres! Readers here know Nando as a HUGE WWE fan, but he’s also an actor, filmmaker and Chief Operating Officer of Bad Kitty Films. Nando produced a short film called The Conversation which is screening this weekend at Orlando Film Festival. He and his Bad Kitty partner in crime, actress/director Christina Carmona, also play a pair of evil villains in another film screening this weekend called TechSquad, produced by Creative Inlet Films. I highly encourage you to check out both, with the least amount of bias I can muster!

Florida Buzz: Bollywood Oscars to make US debut in Tampa 2014

Sharing this exciting blog from our pals at Indie Cinema Showcase!! (Guest poster: Jen Vargas)

For the first time in their history, the International Indian Film Academy will debut the 15th Annual Tata Motors IIFA Awards in the United States. What makes this event even more exciting is the fact that the glamour of the GREEN CARPET will be coming to Tampa Bay! According to the official announcement (below) the awards show boasts 800 million viewers globally, in over 110 countries and is anticipated to bring valuable impact to the area. (JenSideNote: I LOVE how active the IIFA is on Social Media!! Facebook, TwitterMirror, Google+ Hangouts, YouTube… awesome!)

Only time will tell the actual numbers of its impact however, Mike Salinero of the Tampa Tribune writes, “The International Indian Film Academy awards ceremony is expected to draw 30,000 visitors to the Tampa area next June and create $100 million in economic impact.” Instrumental in bringing the awards to Tampa and also quoted in Salinero’s story, businessman Chetan “Jason” R. Shah says, “This is a major, major attraction that’s going to boost the economy like anything.” We at ICS hope so. You’ve already seen ICS on the Red Carpet and the Blue Carpet… maybe the Green Carpet is in our future?

If Florida hosted more big (film) industry events like this – domestic and international – MAYBE it would capture Governor Rick Scott’s attention enough to see the value of investing in our film industry in Florida… one can only hope.

Indie Cinema Showcase Presents Star Wars Celebration VI 2012

We had a great time at this year’s Star Wars Celebration VI at the Orange County Convention Center! One group we kept seeing over and over was the local Orange TV/VISION television show, Indie Cinema Showcase. We couldn’t attend all four days of Celebration but judging by their tweets, Indie Cinema Showcase did and it looks like they had the most fun!

Orange County residents can catch Indie Cinema Showcase on VISION TV five times a week on Brighthouse Channel 198, Comcast Channel 98 or AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 (Sundays at 2am & 3pm, Tuesdays at 10am, Thursdays at 6pm and Fridays at 10pm). For those out of county/state, check them out on iTunes or via their website, www.indiecinemashowcase.com, where all three seasons are available to view. Also check out the website if you are a filmmaker interested in submitting a short film, no more than 10 minutes, to the show.

In case you weren’t aware, Indie Cinema Showcase is a Florida based television show for anyone who likes movies! They are in their third season and are local Emmy hopefuls — good luck guys! (Executive Producer, Gerald Godbout III, is already an Emmy and Telly Award Winner.) “ICS” spotlights our independent film community here in Central Florida as well as the talents of filmmakers, actors and crew from all over the state. The hosts are local as well; Christina CarmonaAllison Walter and Matt Doolittle, give you some great insight on some really talented, creative people and their productions!
