Oh no!! The Cosmic Cube has been shattered and spread across the world! Loki is scheming again! (When ISN’T he scheming!?) What can we do?? The resourceful folks at Feld Entertainment have the answer: Marvel Universe LIVE!
Even Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer and guy with the coolest job ever, Joe Quesada, was blown away. At New York Comic Con he said, “It’s truly like nothing you’ve ever seen before. The stuff they have planned, the technologies that they’re going to be applying to this show… when I first read the script I’m like, ‘Well obviously they’re not going to be able to do this. This is going to be thrown out of the script because it’s impossible to be able to produce this live.’ No, they’re producing this stuff live! Characters that you’d be sitting there going, ‘Well there’s no way they could do that with that character or make that character appear’ no well they can actually do it. Trust me, it’s going to be mind blowing.” Quite an endorsement!
Director (and Emmy® Winner) Shanda Sawyer says, “Creating a show that brings these superheroes to life is a super human feat in and of itself.” With all the technical elements involved, I’m sure their cue sheet alone is 20 feet long. AT LEAST. Sawyer goes on to say, “We’ve been developing vehicles, motor stunts, pyro stunts, creature stunts. Everything in this show is something that’s never been done so that involves a lot of development, a lot of research, a lot of testing.”
For all you tech heads out there, another cool and unique aspect to this show is new technology called BlackTrax. Essentially what this does is pinpoints and tracks LED stringers (think: embedded targets) installed in or on performers, their costumes and props or on the set pieces themselves. Once a stringer is ‘found,’ a dedicated media server system will project show elements (lasers, animations, etc) on to the target, what or whomever it might be. For a more in depth look, check out this Q&A from Live Design, and even more detail and diagrams on The CAST Group‘s page.
Feld Entertainment has invited Central Florida Top 5 to check out the show on opening night, December 5th at Amway Arena and we can’t wait to see it all in person! (My boyfriend loves Spider-Man but is really hoping for a surprise Deadpool appearance.) Want to join us? Tickets are available now at amwaycenter.com, at the Chase Box Office (in person), at Ticketmaster retail locations and over the phone at 1-800-745-3000.
