While Orlando is already awesome, we’d never scoff at a $20,000 improvement put on someone else’s tab. One of The City Beautiful’s parks is about to get a makeover and you get to help pick which one.
In honor of Earth Month, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Disney | ABC Television Group and ESPN have teamed up to revitalize parks across the U.S. through the Parks Build Community program. As part of the initiative, one of three City of Orlando parks will receive a $20,000 grant and you can help choose which project gets funded.
According to a City of Orlando press release, your options are:
– Trail improvements at Bill Frederick Park: Upgrade the nature trail at Bill Frederick Park, giving the community a safe place to explore, learn about and connect with nature.
– Parramore Kidz Zone Football: Give Orlando’s kids in need the opportunity to learn the game of football by providing the safety gear and other equipment they need to enjoy their sport.
– Shade Structure for Orlando Skate Park: Orlando Skate Park brings together skateboard, BMX and Rollerblade enthusiasts. Give these athletes and their fans a break from the Florida sun with a new shade structure. The park hosts weekly competitions and hands over skateboards and wakeboards as prizes.
You can vote daily through April 30 at parksbuildcommunity.org.
“Through our Green Works initiative, Orlando has become the most sustainable City in the southeast and part of that achievement comes from our focus on transforming our urban environment to connect our neighborhoods by providing more parks and green public spaces that offer gathering spaces for recreation and social activity for our residents,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “I am proud Orlando is a part of the Parks Build Community competition and how this partnership will help us continue to further our sustainability efforts.”
“Parks have immense power. They help families live healthier lives, connect kids to nature, increase kids’ access to sports and so much more,” said Barbara Tulipane, President and CEO of NRPA. “Parks Build Community is a great opportunity to share the power of parks during Earth Month while bringing essential funds to critical local park projects.”
We’ll be waiting to see which park gets the winning number of votes. Vote now: parksbuildcommunity.org
