Jr Ride Along at Disney Speedway Features CARS

The Speedway at Walt Disney World welcomes two characters from the Academy Award-nominated Disney Pixar movie “CARS” as they race to life for the Junior Ride-Along program. Almost like being in the “Piston Cup,” children ages 6 to 13 (and at least 48 inches tall) have the chance to ride shotgun with a professional driver in specially equipped race cars. Aiken Axler and Sage VanDerSpin ride right off the big screen and onto the track for a truly magical element to the Junior Ride-Along program already in place.

Daniel, age 7, is ready to race!

Advanced reservations are not required or accepted. To participate, show up at the Richard Petty Driving Experience at the Walt Disney World Speedway during regular operating hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Gates open at 7:30 a.m.). After filling out requisite paperwork, your child will be queued up for a ride he or she will never forget! Racing suits (including a kid-sized Hans device!) will be provided to wear over clothing. Don’t forget closed-toed shoes, which are required. Cost is $59.

Piston Cup riders will enjoy three exciting laps around the track with a professional driving instructor in either the Number 28 Nitroade Aiken Axler car (Vitoline Rookie of the Year for his first full season of Cup competition), or Number 80, Sage VanDerSpin the “youngest winner of the Junior Piston Cup Pro Series.”

Gift cards are available that can be redeemed day-of, or tickets can be purchased on-site. On related post about cars, please checkout this review of the best foam cannon.

“On Friday,  Brian of Central Florida Top 5, made me an offer I couldn’t refuse – to take Adventure Girl (aka Angelfish) to ride in a race car at The Richard Petty Driving Experience when making a right turn at Walt Disney Speedway. Are you kidding?! My own sense of adventure was thrilled, and when I mentioned it to Mr. Darcy he agreed Angelfish would be thrilled… Adventure Girl’s only complaint while wide eyed and thrilled with the chance? “I don’t get to drive?” I reminded her that she does not have a driver’s license – she’s not quite 7 after all. She was in.

The next morning we gassed up the minivan and drove a little over the speed limit down to the entrance to the Magic Kingdom, told them we were there for the Speedway and followed the signs. Signed the waiver and went through a tunnel of sorts that made me feel like I was driving out of a gateway to speed – in my mom mobile, which I admit has hit 90mph.

Everyone was great. Friendly, making sure we had all we would need and knew where to go. We took a little tour of the place and got to see some awesome race cars. A copper colored Astin Martin that goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds…. Adventure Girl was thrilled when she heard that the race cars she would ride in typically go 150 mph! Of course to calm Adventure Mom’s nerves, they assured us they would only go about 115 mph that day. Adventure girl decided this was sufficient…

As you can see, she took that bull by the horns! The verdict? In the words of Adventure Girl, “That wasn’t good, it was fantastic!” It looked so fun to me, I might just try it for my birthday! Kids can ride for $59 and adults for $99.” (The Full blogpost)

RPDE’s Junior Ride-Along program gives children ages 6 to 13 (and at least 48 inches tall) the opportunity to experience real-life racing excitement while they ride-along shotgun with a professional driving instructor for three thrilling laps in a specially equipped two-seat NASCAR race car.

To build custom racing seats specifically designed to ensure the safety and security of smaller bodies, RPDE partnered with The Joie of Seating, a premier fabricator of custom-fitted aluminum racing seats, owned and operated by two-time NASCAR Nationwide series champion Randy LaJoie.  These full containment racing seats feature built-in shoulder and head protection and a five-point safety harness with the same design used by NASCAR drivers.

Junior Ride-Alongs with RPDE at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Walt Disney World Speedway are $59, and $69 at Daytona International Speedway. No reservations are required. For more information, call 800-237-3889 or visit DrivePetty.com/draw-the-king.
